Licensed Clinical Marriage and Family Therapist through the Behavioral Sciences Regulatory Board of the State of Kansas; Clinical Fellow with the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapy

Throughout Gary’s career, working with and caring for people has been a core value for his life’s work. Gary holds an undergraduate degree in Psychology from UMKC, and a Master of Divinity degree from St. Paul School of Theology in Overland Park, Kansas.

Gary counsels individuals and families, and works through adjustment problems with couples, children, and youth by reestablishing communication, relational understanding and emotional healing.  He also provides therapy for couples dealing with infidelity,  survivors of emotional and sexual abuse, those struggling with issues of aging, divorce, grief, addiction recovery, and stress of serious illnesses on the family. He assists couples preparing for marriage using the “Prepare/Enrich Inventory”.

Gary is  a cancer survivor. He considers himself to be a “wounded healer” who appreciates the fact that being “broken or wounded” is a part of our human condition. He helps clients find strength by working through their woundedness so they no longer need to feel victimized and powerless.

With a background as an ordained Pastor of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and a full-time minister for over 35 years, Gary feels comfortable bringing aspects of faith and spirituality into the therapy session. However, Gary holds a high regard for the client’s perspective and so he will only discuss faith issues when the client requests that spirituality be included as a part of the treatment plan.

He has been married for over 50 years to his wife, Sarah, who is also a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor. She is also in private practice. Sarah and Gary have three children and two beautiful granddaughters.

Gary is on the provider panels for United Health Care, Optum behavioral health, New Directions EAP, and Optum EAP. He accepts clients on a self-pay basis and can process credit cards, checks, flexible spending account cards and, of course, cash. His sessions are approximately 50 minutes in length and his fees per session are based on the insurance plan held by the client. In the case of self–pay, the fee is $120 for the first session and $90 for each session following.  Talk with Gary about fees for 4-6 sessions packaged together for pre-marriage counseling.
